Committees

There are eight (8) committees that need volunteers:

  1. Building
Develops a budget proposal for construction, determines material and labor needs, develops a channel for donations and in-kind services and provides supervision for volunteers and skilled contractors. This committee has hands-on involvement with building of the houses.
  2. Church Relations
Members are our liaison with the over one-hundred churches in our county. Their goal is to increase involvement in the building of and financial contribution to the building of the Habitat homes as well as to identify families in need of decent housing.
  3. Family Selection
This committee determines the application process and procedures, interviews and visits applicants, makes applicant-family recommendations to the Board of Directors, who makes the final decision.
  4. Family Support
Supports and guides the new homeowner into partnership with Habitat and prepares them for home ownership. This committee coordinates Sweat Equity and prepares training and classes in home ownership.
  5. Public Relations
This committee is for outgoing and charismatic individuals who enjoy engaging with the press and functioning as the communications nexus for the organization. Other tasks include creating new and exciting brochures and mailings and writing a monthly newsletter.
  6. Resource Generation (Fun and Frolic Group)
Helps organize and implement the seasonal fundraising events and search online for grants. Some past events include a Dinner Auction, Concert, Fall Raffle, Fashion Show, Hike for Humanity and Golf Outing.
  7. Site Selection
Finds sites for construction and works with the Building Committee.
  8. Volunteer
This committee works hard to keep the volunteer base organized. Volunteers are our most cherished resource and we need people who know (or are ready to learn) how to accommodate their specific needs and desires. Responsibilities include keeping up and updating our database of volunteers and getting the volunteers to the right job on the right day.

Home Center

Open Six Days a Week - Monday thru Saturday
Help is Needed on a Consistent Basis (i.e - Tuesdays from 1:00 - 3:00)
Help is also needed as a back-up. There are times the regularly scheduled volunteer can't be at the store and the back-up would cover their shift.
Since our center has recently doubled in size, the number of volunteers needed to staff the store has also doubled. Please consider helping with our most important fundraising activity!

Direct Contact can be made with the Home Center by calling (810) 220 -9986 - Extension 13 or via email at homecenter@livingstonhabitat.org.

Collection / Pick-up of Home Center Donations

Since acquiring our trailer, we are now in need of people with vehicles set-up to haul trailers (ours is 6' x 12'). Volunteers will help collect items donated to the Home Center. The collection times would be flexible to meet your schedule. Due to insurance issues, individuals that can dedicate a more consistent time -i.e. once a week - would fit better into this volunteer opportunity.

Deconstruction Teams

Volunteers reclaim building materials from structures that are being remodeled or demolished. The materials are then offered for sale in the Home Center.

House Build

In September of 2007 we completed our 15th home which is located Brighton (Hamburg  Township).

The Howell High School Building Trades program is in the process of building our 16th home.  Please periodically check our website for information about upcoming volunteer opportunities for this build.  NOTE:  These will occur after school is over and the home is completed by the students.  Help will be needed once the home is ready to be moved to the lot and in getting the lot ready for the home.
